Travel Time?

Yes I am still alive!!!

For those who still check my blog, I am in Caldwell, Ks USA right now.

I have purchased a house here and have been working on it to make it a home. However it is getting close to that time where I must decide where to spend the winter. Should I stay in Kansas for the winter or go somewhere warmer? Vegas, Florida, Arizona, California. Or maybe spend the winter in Central or South America? Cabo San Lucas, Rio de Janeiro?

If anyone has an idea for where I should spend the winter, please let me know. And if anyone would like to join me I would definitely love some company. So now is the time to start planning. Send me your travel ideas and let me know if you would like to join me there!

I will be waiting to here from you.

Emerging from the jungle!

Here I am on a small island off the Caribbean coast of Panama. How did I get here? What’s it like? Read on, the story continues.

Getting here was an adventure of it’s own. First the border crossing into Panama was a small abandoned railroad bridge that crosses the river. And a fair amount of time spent at both the Costa Rican customs and the Panama customs on the other side.

Next came the ride down countless miles of gravel roads.

Along the way we passed by fields and jungle.

And many a banana plantation.

After all this was a crowded boat ride across some very choppy seas.

We passed by some really poor backwater settlements

Till we finally arrived in a little paradise oasis of an island.

Once here there was plenty of time to just relax by the ocean.

Sit in the park and people watch.

Wander the streets exploring quaint little seaside shops.

Or of course dine out. Here is a little bus converted to a restaurant. You can sit and enjoy a smoothie or order a wrap sandwich and climb on top of the bus to sit and watch what is going on around town. Look closely and you will see the ladder on the back and chairs on top.

If quaint is not civilized enough, then a meal at the top hotel (rooms $185 per night) is always an option.

Let it be known that even the nicest restaurants allow animals to wander thru them. After all we are still in the jungle. I bet the doberman that is leaving didn’t have to pay $15 for his steak!

At night time you can sit on the street and watch the people or enter a outdoor nightclub with all the music and lights you would find back home.

Just so you don’t think it is perfect all the time. It did rain ONCE while I was here!

See you next time, as the adventure continues.

Finding Myself

Been in Costa Rica for months now. I think it is time I get away from it all and REALLY relax. Take a month or two to “Find myself”. Should I keep traveling? Should I come back to the USA? Should I just stay here and disappear into the jungles? Only time will tell. And that time starts now!

If I get a chance to post I will. Otherwise see you when the jungle spits me back out. :)

I was last spotted at this remote border crossing. Here I am heading into the jungle on the other side.

King of the World

“I’m King of the world!” Ok, maybe not. But I am king of the pool.

I am in the sleepy little beach town of Puero Viejo, Costa Rica on the Caribbean ocean. A couple of days here and then I will cross the border into Panama to visit the island of Bocas del Toros. Here are some pictures of my hotel and the town. Here is a picture of the entrance to the hotel.

The Hotel Room.

Pathways thru the hotels’ gardens to the pool.

The Pool

One of the backstreets. Full of activity and many dogs roaming around everywhere.

Street scene at night from a 2nd story restaurant.

The flames are from vendors cooking meats on a stick (Skish kabob).

This sure is a nice place. Now if I can only figure out what to do with all my free time. How about lounging in my hammock.

Or maybe sunning around the pool.

Nope, I figured it out. I will spend my free time just floating away!

Later! :)

Road Trippin

Two weeks since my last post. So some people might actually be wondering “Where’s Wayne” for real! So where have I been? Took a car and went back to the condo on Flamingo Beach for another break from the real world. On the way I spent some time looking into the cost of buying a vender stall on Puteranas Beach. Then on the way back from the condo to San Jose I drove around Lake Arenal and the Volcano there. It is one of the 5 most active volcanos in the world. Also there was that close call when the police pulled me over for slamming on the brakes right before a roadside sobriety check point. That was fun. And finally I got all my hair cut off. How does this look?

Where to now? Well I was last seen buying a new pair of sandals and heading for a caribbean beach town!

That’s all for now, I am crossing the border into Panama tomorrow (Wed 1/26). After I get settled in I will post some pictures from the laid back little beach town of Puerto Viejo in southern Costa Rica. Wayne

Nightlife

With all the bars and restaurants in the beach town, we always had someplace new to go. Here are a few of the places we went. They don’t start filling up till 11:00pm and then party till late in the morning.

Here I am with Chris and some of the girls at Pacifico in Tamarindo.

The music and dance at Pacifico

Although the video is real bad, if you look closely that shadow in the middle of the screen with the orange shirt is me dancing.

This is a picture of one of the restaurants in Tamarindo.

Live band playing at Outback Jack’s. We ate here. Great food!

This club had a pool by the bar. Should have brought my swimsuit.

Somewhere along a dirt road in the country we drove by this little joint. The lead guitarist played rifts and runs on his guitar faster than anyone I ever seen.

A day at the beach!

Alright I admit there has been a lot more than one day at the beach. Here are some videos and pictures of Playa Flamingo and Playa Grande.

Here I am enjoying Flamingo Beach with hardly anyone else on it.

Oh look, I guess there was someone else there. I think that is my brothers next wife!

And the sunsets are beautiful here. Check out the video of a sunset on my previous blog.

These next videos and picture are all on Playa Grande. Here we are setting up a spot to kick back and enjoy.

Panoramic view of Playa Grande

I had more fun being thrown around by the waves than I can say. This video shows what I mean.

The waves here were rough, not good for surfing; but really fun to play in.

There were lots of shells washing up on the beach

Also there were quite a few pelicans diving in the surf for fish.

That’s all for now!

My Condo in Flamingo

I finally found a great beach to call home. Playa Flamingo on the Pacific Coast has the best white sand beach for a thousand miles. With a light pink tint to the sands. My condo overlooks the beach. Still think I am coming back? LOL :) Check out the video and tell me what you would do!

These pictures show the resort’s lobby overlooking the bay. One of the 5 pools with views of the bay and the Monkey bar, which is my new office here in Costa Rica. Check out the view from my “desk”!
